This organization provides free lesson plans for elementary, middle and secondary teachers and students. In addition to searching the database of activities, helpful references, career profiles, video series and more are offered.  Topics include potash mining, uranium processing, gold and coal mining, and related chemistry. Some reference materials are available in French.

Industrial Minerals Poster

Industrial Minerals are non-metallic, non-fuel minerals that are used in everything from cosmetics to pharmaceuticals. The front of the poster depicts 12 common industrial minerals and some of the important ways in which they are used. The back of the poster contains a map of industrial mineral producing areas of the United States, mine examples and three simple hands-on activities for testing mineral properties in the classroom. 36” x 24” 2-sided poster created in collaboration with the Industrial Minerals Association of North America.

Potash Mining Video

Potash is a common name for salts that contain potassium. Potassium (K) is an important element in human and animal health, and a major nutrient for plant growth and crop yield. This 5-minute video from Nutrients for Life discusses the process of creating usable potash for fertilizer through two different mining techniques for extracting and processing potash ore. [5:16]

Each bookmark has information printed on front and back. The 40 individual bookmarks are laminated, packaged into complete sets, and are ready for classroom use.
