Part of the Minerals Education Coalition’s mission is to inform and educate the general public about the importance of mining in their everyday lives. MEC staff and volunteers  work in-person events and MEC provides virtual educational materials for online events.

Colorado State Fair Day Camp

The Colorado State Fair Day Camp had virtual activities for kids from 3:30 pm-5:00 pm MT daily, Aug. 31-Sept. 3, 2020.  Mineral and     mining activities and videos from MEC were part of the fun–see it all here.

 

SEPTEMBER 9, 2020

Move Mining Next Gen Competition Is Open!

Students in grades K – 12 create a 3-minute video that shows how important mining and minerals are in our lives. There are prizes for different grade categories and the largest cash prize is $1,000!  All the details, including parental consent forms, can be found on MoveMiningNextGen.org.

SciFest All Access

The SciFest All Access virtual science festival will offer engaging STEM activities and performances that celebrate the excitement of STEM for K-12 students, college students, educators, and families.  The MEC Virtual Booth will have the new MEC Careers in Mining video and more!  Register here.

 

OCTOBER 11-17, 2020

Earth Science Week 

Each year, MEC partners with the American Geosciences Institute’s Earth Science Week (ESW) to provide educational resources across    the globe at www.EarthSciWeek.org and in the ESW Toolkit.  This    year’s theme will be “Earth Materials in Our Lives.”  See MEC’s ESW activities here.
