Part of the Minerals Education Coalition’s mission is to inform and educate the general public about the importance of mining in their everyday lives. MEC staff and volunteers work in-person events and MEC provides virtual educational materials for online events.

2023 American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Conference
Atlanta GA, July 15-18 SME/SME Foundation staff will attend the ASCA Conference in Atlanta, GA to interface with thousands of counselors and provide information on the wide range of rewarding careers and programs being offered in the minerals industry. The staff will be distributing the newly revised Careers in Mining Booklet, informative flyers – on Mining Schools and Universities and the programs they offer, Jobs of Tomorrow (a new SME docuseries that explores different careers in the industry), and SME Foundation Corporate Partner company information, scholarships, and internship opportunities. |

2023 Earth Science Week Theme “Geoscience Innovating For Earth and People” The Earth Science event will take place October 8-14, 2023. The celebration will emphasize the many ways that innovations in geosciences are helping communities crate healthier and increasingly sustainable lives while accelerating environmental problem-solving around the world. NSTA National Conference on Science Education Kansas City, Missouri MEC staff and local volunteers will distribute rock and mineral boxes and educational resources to the attending educators. The first 1500 teachers to visit the MEC booth (#527) will get a free rock and mineral box. |
