If your SME Section has funds, but no volunteers: purchase educational resources for area teachers.

If your SME student chapter has volunteers, but no funds, volunteer your time at a local science teacher conference.

As an SME member, volunteer your time to conduct a presentation on the importance of mining and minerals for K – 12 students and purchase an MEC poster to leave behind for the teacher.

Conduct outreach presentations in local K – 12 schools

Staff a booth in your local area.  Find your state’s Science Teachers Association conference. Click here to find your state’s guidance counselor conference. Your organization will pay for the booth cost and will provide volunteers.

Download and print MEC’s free online educational resources, including:

Purchase select paper posters and activities to hand out to attendees at an SME member/Section/Student Chapter discount rate.

Hand out request forms for classroom presentations at your conferences. Download a sample form to edit for your event.

Become a Mining in Society merit badge counselor or sponsor MISmb workshops through your company.

Order Earth Science Week educational resource kits for local teachers. Geoscience educational organizations like MEC, NASA and Discovery provide materials in these kits. Help them to reach 9,000 teachers each year!
