Beckman Quarry, San Antonio, TX reclaimed as Six Flags Amusement Park and La Cantera shopping center
In 1934 the McDonnell family started the Beckman quarry. Eventually it would encompass almost 1400 acres, and is still in active production. The portion where Six Flags Fiesta Texas is located was mined out in 1988 and the equipment relocated to another portion of the mine. That eventually became La Cantera Hill Country Resort and its associated golf courses along with the Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme park, the Shops at La Cantera, an upscale shopping center, and additional development.
